We had fantastic turnout for our Bennett Park Day on August 18th.  Over 100 people showed up to pitch in.
We are having our 3rd Bennett Park Day on September 15th starting at 9:30 am.  The tasks that need to be completed:

  1. We'll be renting a chipper to chip up the remaining brush.
  2. The fill around the basketball court will be spread out.
  3. The remaining pile of wood chips will be moved to various trail locations (ie. a trail around the basketball court, behind the building,...)
  4. The siding for the building is now up and needs to be stained (thanks to Murray Mason, Martin Tanner,

Jim Sullivan & Zack Tynes for working hard to get the siding up.)

  1. We have 20 bags of wildflower mix to plant along the banks of the road coming in.  Topsoil will need to be spread first.
  2. Installing signs in the community.  We have park signs for each of the parks and reduce speed signs for along the Mineville Road (both ends.)  The holes are dug, they just need to be set in concrete.
  3. Installing remaining bird nests.
Please bring your wheelbarrow if you can help out.
Hot dogs and pop will be provided for all the volunteers.

CIBC Run for the Cure

Phil Myers is organizing the 21st annual Terry Fox Run for Cancer Research in Mineville this year (this is the 1st time in Mineville.)  The run will be held Sunday, September 16th from 10 am to 2 pm at Bennett Park.  There will be 2 general starting times at 10am and noon, but participants can begin anytime between 10am and 1pm.  Phil is searching for some volunteers to assist with registration, route setup, water/first aid station and clean-up on the day of the run.  There will be a barbecued from 11am until 1pm with all proceeds going

towards the "Terry Fox Run."  Anyone willing to show off their barbecue skills should call Phil.  Furthermore, anyone having connections with businesses/corporations who may have financial contributions available to donate to enable purchasing a Terry Fox flag for the start/finish line, prizes for the highest values in pledge sheets, etc. is asked to contact Phil.  Phil's phone # is 829-3936.
Furthermore, the 1-10km route can be walked or biked (you don't have to run.)

Bottle Drive--Thursday, September 13th

We will be having a bottle drive on Thursday, September 13th starting at 6:00 pm.  If possible please leave your bottles by the

side of the road for pickup.  Volunteers should contact Karen Webb at 829-2983.  Thanks for your support.

Most of the bird houses are now up in various locations throughout the community.  The barred-owl nests and the 4 osprey/eagle poles will be put up sometime in the next couple of weeks.  Phil Myers, Jeremy Cormier and our 4 N.S. Youth Conservation Corps crew (Matt Golding, Mary Beth Goodall, Natasha Roach & Steve Kalyta) did an excellent job this summer.  Also, thanks to Dave Peralta & Murray Mason for cutting all the wood.

Somebody will be contacting you in the next couple of weeks if you were interested in the bulk discount for water testing and/or having your septic tank pumped.
You may have noticed that the basketball pole was bent over shortly after it was put up.  It was not vandalized.  The trucking company delivering fill accidentally knocked it over.  As you can see they had somebody come in and repair it for us.
